How To Fix Parse Error: There Was A Problem Parsing The Package

Recommended Posts

The parse error on Android phones is nothing new. The error’s been around for a while. Users see the message “Parse Error: There was a problem parsing the package.” The error stops users from installing apps on their smartphones.

Reasons for the error

There are different reasons why you may see the parse error on your phone. It appears when you are trying to install an Android app on your phone, but there are different reasons why it may appear.

Installing apps from unknown sources may be disabled on your smartphone.

You may have an internal error on your Android phone or tab.

Your Android smartphone operating system version or its hardware is not compatible with the app you are trying to download.

The app has a damaged or partially downloaded apk file, making it corrupted.

Your Android’s security system is blocking the phone from downloading a third-party app.

How to fix “Parse Error: There was a problem parsing the package”:

Set phone to allow apps from unknown sources

Android phones sometimes keep you from installing third-party apps and software from anyplace other than the Google Play Store for security reasons. Simply put, you take a chance at installing third party apps from unknown sources because they can sometimes harm your Android phone.

That said, that’s not always the case. There are third-party apps that may work fine. To fix this and get around the ban, you need to allow app installation from the unknown sources. You fix this in your phone security settings.

Step 1: Go to Settings then tap on Privacy.

Step 2: Find Unknown Sources and check the box next to it. If you are prompted to confirm, tap OK.

Step 3: Restart your phone.

Step 4: Return to the folder where you have the .apk located. Tap on it and install the app.

Inspect the APK file

See if the apk file is completely downloaded or corrupted. Try to download it from the Google Play Store or elsewhere if it isn’t in the Google Play Store. Maybe downloading a new copy will solve the error.

Enable USB debugging

While you don’t have to do this to install Android apps using an .apk file, it sometimes works. Enable USB debugging by enabling the developer option in your Android phone.

Step 1: Go to Settings.

Step 2: Tap on About Phone.

Step 3: Scroll to Build Number and tap on it seven times. On the seventh time you should see a message saying “You are now a developer.”

Step 4: Go to Settings and tap on Developer Options.

Step 5: Tap on USB debugging to enable it.

Disable antivirus program

Your antivirus program could be causing the parsing error. Many antivirus programs block installation of apps that may look suspicious. Disable the antivirus software temporarily – only if you totally trust the app you are trying to download – and install the .apk file.

Check compatibility of app with your device

Another possibility is the app may not be compatible with your device. You may want to try to install it on another Android device if you have one, especially if it runs a newer version of Android. You can also research the app and see if there are any compatibility issues.

Hopefully one of these solutions helps you to eliminate the parsing error. Good luck on your attempts and may you continue enjoying the use of your Android phone.
