  1. If you’ve seen the “Authentication is required. You need to sign into your Google account” message, you’re not alone. The message is quite common on Android devices. It’s not the message you want to see when you are trying to download and install an app from the Google Play Store. After all, apps are what make smartphones so much fun. We love seeing new apps and trying them out – even if we already have two or three others that do the same thing. We can’t let a message interfere with our search. If you’re one of the Android phone users seeing the dreaded “Authentication is Required” message when you try to download an app, here’s a handy troubleshooting guide to help you get everything right again. Clear the data from the Google Play Store app Here is Google’s official answer in its help forum. Try clearing the data from your phone’s Google Play Store app. Here is how. Step one: Go to the Settings menu on your device. Step two: Tap on Apps or Application manager. Step three: Select the Google Play Store app. Step four: Tap on Clear Data. The official suggestion didn’t fix the problem? Keep reading. Remove and re-add your Google account The error can sometimes be fixed by removing and restoring your Google account. It could be caused by a sign-in issue. Make sure you remember your Google password before you begin the steps. Step one: Go to Settings then Accounts. Step two: Remove the Google account you previously registered. Make sure it’s the one to which the “authentication is required” message is referring. Step three: Re-add your account and continue trying to use the Google Play Store. Log in with your Google account from the Play Store This is a variation from the above. Go to Settings>Accounts>Google and delete your Google account. Instead of going to Settings to re-add your Google account, go to the Google Play Store app on your device. Then enter your user name and password when the app requests them. Uninstall Google Play Store updates It may not be your credentials at all. It may be an issue with the Play Store’s service software. To fix it, you want to remove updates and return to the original version of the Play Store installed on your device then install the latest version. Step one: Go to Settings. Step two: Tap on Applications>Play Store. Step three: Tap on Uninstall updates. Step four: Install the latest Google Play version. We understand not being able to install apps can be frustrating. We are right there with you. We love installing apps on our Android devices as well. Hopefully these fixes solved your problem with your Google Play Store app saying you don’t have the proper authentication. These solutions have helped others resolve their issues.
